NNF 2014/116 Paper Air Waybill Surcharge

The following has been received from the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) as regards a Paper Air Waybill Surcharge being considering by certain air carriers to force e-AWB take up.
"In recent days FIATA's Airfreight Institute (AFI) has been alerted to the intention of air carriers to implement a Paper Air Waybill Surcharge, for non e-AWB export shipments.
This action has been announced as a commitment to helping the airline's industry body, IATA reach its goal of implementing e-Freight worldwide.
AFI supports e-Commerce and e-Air Waybill implementation in the air cargo supply chain; however it encourages implementation, through creating value for forwarders and carriers alike, and recognizing the costs that the originator of the information incurs, to enter and transmit data.
The forwarding community must voice their objection to carriers, who seek to apply yet another surcharge, and create yet another revenue stream, under the guise of supporting IATA's e-Freight initiative.
FIATA members, of which the CBFCA is, have been requested to support the FIATA position to not endorse this IATA initiative."
Members should note this aspect as regards to any carrier e-AWB charge in Australia.

Container Weights and Australian Road Rules

Unfortunately you cant stuff a container to the max. Reasons being we have Heavy Vehicle National Law . You can find additional information at the Vic Roads website.

Australian roads generally take up to 42.5T in weight. A quick calculation for a 20FCL: Truck will be approx 22.5T plus your container 2.23T the remainder is 17.7T net weight of goods inside.

Any containers needing a Sideloader delivery that are over 22,500kg (22.5T, Including the Weight of the container) will incur additional charges. Reasons being is that container will need to be moved via skel/flatbed truck and a sideloader truck to unload.

Excessively heavy containers require special road permits etc, the additional cost for this differ on  a case by case basis.

Below is a good diagram to assist you with dimensions and weights. Although the container has a maximum gross mass doesn't necessarily mean we have the capability to move them on our roads. Best to do your research and sensibly stuff your containers within the road rule laws.
